Design Story

The Karoo colourway draws its character from one of South Africa’s most compelling landscapes. A nuanced composition of rust, brown, orange and grey evokes the region’s arid terrain—restrained and rugged from a distance, yet extraordinarily rich in colour and detail upon closer inspection. It is an earthy palette that brings warmth to neutral rooms and depth to more layered interiors.

Its beauty is amplified by Mungo’s double-cloth construction, in which two complete layers of cotton fabric are woven simultaneously and joined together. The additional threads produce a soft, substantial blanket with greater warmth and an almost three-dimensional surface. Because each face presents a different design, the Karoo can be reversed to change the mood of a bedroom or living room without changing the textile itself.

Designed with finished top and bottom borders for an elegant end-of-bed drape, this luxury cotton throw is designed, woven and made at the Mungo Mill in South Africa. Mungo also contributes 1% of its annual turnover to MOVE, supporting and empowering the Plettenberg Bay community.
