Design Story

Designed by Alain van Havre, the PI collection honours nature’s design by preserving the strength, curves and lines found naturally within the wood. Rather than pursuing perfect uniformity, the collection embraces what Ethnicraft describes as a polished imperfect finish, allowing the material itself to help shape the character of each piece.

Each PI Console is finished by hand to respect the individual qualities of the solid oak. Natural grain and variations become integral to the design, complemented by an organically shaped surface that softens the traditional proportions of a console table.

At just 16 inches deep, the PI Console provides a useful display surface without projecting far into the room. Its slender proportions make it particularly versatile in an entryway, living room, dining area or behind a sofa, where it can hold artwork, lighting, books and collected objects.

Crafted from 100% solid oak and protected with a hardwax oil finish, the PI Console combines sculptural form with the warmth and enduring character of natural wood. Two available lengths allow the same distinctive design to work across a range of spaces.

Frequently asked questions

Where can you use a narrow console table in your home?

A narrow console table can add a useful surface to an entryway, hallway, living room or dining space without occupying the depth of larger furniture. At only 16 inches deep, the PI Console is particularly well suited to areas where floor space is limited but you still want somewhere to display lighting, artwork, books or decorative objects.

What is an organic-shaped console table?

An organic-shaped console replaces rigid geometric lines with softer curves and irregular forms inspired by nature. The PI Console features a distinctive pebble-shaped solid oak surface, giving it a more sculptural appearance than a conventional rectangular console while remaining practical for everyday display.

Why does each PI Console have slightly different wood character?

The PI collection is designed to respect the natural character of solid wood rather than making every piece appear completely uniform. Each PI Console is finished by hand, allowing variations in the oak's grain, lines and natural character to remain visible. These differences are intentional and contribute to the individuality of each piece.
