Design Story

Designed by Jacques Deneef, the Barrow Lounge Chair takes its cues from the inviting forms and effortless elegance of 1950s furniture. Its broad, curved back wraps naturally around the sitter, creating an embracing silhouette that feels both nostalgic and distinctly contemporary.

The chair’s generous upholstered form is contrasted by a slender metal base, visually lifting the seat from the floor and giving the design an unexpected lightness. This balance between substantial comfort and delicate structure is central to Barrow’s character.

Inside, high-density polyurethane foam provides supportive cushioning designed for relaxed lounging. The gently reclined form, integrated arms and loose seat cushion create an inviting place to settle in, while the choice of upholstery allows Barrow to take on distinctly different personalities.

Choose the Green version in 100% aniline leather for a rich, natural finish, or the Paon textile version for a softer, fabric-covered interpretation of the same distinctive design.

Frequently asked questions

What style of lounge chair is the Barrow?

The Barrow Lounge Chair takes inspiration from 1950s furniture, combining an enveloping curved seat with a delicate metal base. Its vintage influence works particularly well in mid-century modern interiors, while the clean proportions and understated base allow it to mix easily with contemporary and eclectic furniture.

What is the difference between aniline leather and more heavily finished leather?

Aniline leather retains more of the hide’s natural character because it receives less surface coating than more heavily finished leathers. On the Green Barrow Lounge Chair, 100% aniline leather gives the upholstery a rich, natural appearance that complements the chair’s vintage-inspired form.

Is the Barrow Lounge Chair suitable for a reading corner or bedroom?

Yes. At 32 inches long and 31.5 inches wide, the Barrow provides the comfort and enveloping shape of a substantial lounge chair without an oversized footprint. Its high-density cushioning and supportive curved back make it particularly well suited to a reading corner, bedroom seating area or relaxed living room arrangement.
